What is a MHFA Refresher Course?

Mental Health First Aid Australia offers three Refresher Courses:

  •  Standard Mental Health First Aid Refresher Course
  • Youth Mental Health First Aid Refresher Course
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Refresher Course

These refresher courses will be released in early 2018. Anyone who has completed a 12 or 14-hour MHFA course in the last 3 years is eligible to attend.

For those who completed the online assessment to become an accredited MHFAiders after completing their initial course, the refresher training will allow participants to extend their MHFAider accreditation by another 3 years.

The Refresher Courses aim to update and build upon skills learned in the initial 12 or 14-hour mental health first aid course. The courses contain new films and additional materials. The refresher course will take 4 hours and is completed face-to-face. MHFAiders that attend the refresher course will also receive a Workbook to take home.

If you have completed more than one course and proceeded to complete accreditation for each of these (for example, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander course, Standard MHFA, Youth MHFA) you have a separate accreditation for each of these courses. You will, therefore, need to complete a refresher course for each of these courses. Each of your accreditations will have a separate accreditation date, which will correspond to when you need to complete the refresher course.
