To ensure that our Instructor Training Courses are as effective as possible, we do require participants to first complete the relevant Mental Health First Aid (MHFAider) course. This allows us to focus the training on delivering our specific course content, rather than covering introductory material.
The Instructor Training Course is designed to help you become confident in presenting the MHFA curriculum. This includes learning how to use our teaching resources and applying our instructional methods.
As a Licensed MHFA Instructor, your role will be to teach others how to offer initial support to someone experiencing a mental health problem or crisis—not to provide treatment, but to listen, support, and refer appropriately.
Eligibility
Licensed Instructors are not required to be mental health professionals, nor to have qualifications in mental health.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they meet the following selection criteria:
- Be a current Accredited MHFAider - full course selection available here, and prerequisites in image below
- Knowledge of mental health problems, their treatments and support services
- Personal or professional experience supporting people with mental illnesses
- Respectful attitudes towards people with mental health problems
- Enthusiasm to deliver MHFA courses
- Excellent group facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills
- Individual acknowledgement of license maintenance requirements or organisational support to deliver MHFA courses
- Hold a valid Working with Children/Vulnerable Peoples Check or approved alternative from their state/territory of residence.
This is our minimum criteria for all attendees. Once these requirements are met, we have an application process to be completed,
