No. Accreditation to deliver Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander MHFA courses is only available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people that meet the essential criteria to become AMHFA Instructors.
Mental Health First Aid Australia recognises and values the diversity within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. It is important to recognise that each has differing backgrounds, cultures, experiences, skills and aspirations. These differences extend to certain cultural practices and beliefs between language groups, kinship, family obligations and responsibilities and this knowledge is owned by the individual community and person.
Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander MHFA courses are specifically designed to be a basis from which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Instructors can culturally tailor the delivery to be appropriate for course participants and the community, and where the Instructor is in a position to choose to share their own cultural knowledge to ensure culturally safe and relevant delivery requirements.
