Organisations can find all the relevant information on the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) website, selecting the 'Become An Instructor' drop down box. There is information about all the Instructor Training Courses (ITC) available, including the relevant prerequisites needed to apply.
If an organisation is unsure on who would be the most appropriate person or people to apply to attend; the following considerations can be applied:
-
Training delivery background
-
Knowledge of mental health problems
-
Knowledge of supports available and pathways to access these supports; internally within the organisation and external supports available
-
Experience in providing support to a person with a mental health problem
-
MHFA values the wisdom and knowledge of people with lived experience of mental health problems and mental illness, including caregivers, and many people who have applied for an Instructor Training Course have included their journey in the application.
It is important to note that an applicant must be an accredited MHFA Aider in the particular ITC that they are applying for, as this forms part of the prerequisites.
